Sidewalk Film Festival is produced by the Alabama Moving Image Association, a federally recognized 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to inspire, encourage and support filmgoers, the city of Birmingham and the filmmaking community. In addition to hosting the annual film festival, we host monthly networking and educational events, a monthly documentary series, short film and screenwriting competitions, manage a youth board and a variety of other year-round programs.

Not your typical celebrity profile documentary, Brand: A Second Coming, follows comedian-actor-activist-author, Russell Brand, as he develops his recent stand-up show, runs his Internet channel and increasingly dives into politics. In the film Brand is expectedly self-deprecating, but what is surprising is his consistent thoughtfulness and yet, at the same time, his frequent ability to recognize the irony of such within a privileged lifestyle, one he’s not willing to give up. Brand: A Second Coming skillfully works to figure it all out. Funny, poignant and provocative, Brand is Director Ondi Timoner’s 4th feature documentary to screen at Sidewalk.
